New Year's Eve in Vienna
#TravelVienna is during the New Year's period, one of the most decorated cities in Europe. This city is full of tourists, so the music, food, drinks and fun are available at every step. All stories, that Vienna is like a city from fairy tales, are actually true. It’s up to you to decide if you’re gonna visit this city through the agency or by your own.
On every single step this city is illuminated, there are many Christmas threes and the street musicians complete this winter idyll. Near Natural History Museum, Museum of Art History and * Schönbrunn Palace*there are plenty wooden houses, that are offering many different ornamentals, sweets, drinks and food, like Vienna sausages.
For cooked wine lovers, there are different sorts prepared in Vienna way. They are sold in ceramic vessels, so after using them, you can return them back and get the half of the many you payed for them. It would be a pity not to take them, because those vessels are so beautiful.
For the New Year’s Eve you can reserve a table in the restaurant or you can even decide to spend the night on the square. At different locations in the city, many stages, with different types of music, are set up. You can inform yourself about it right before the trip.
When I was in Vienna, near the City Hall (Rathaus), a stage with the musicians was set up. They were playing classical music, like waltz. That place was so romantic and many couples were dancing, despite the winter.
Everywhere is present, very well-known New Year's euphoria, which overthrows our hearts and creates the hope that many things will change for the better. It marks a new beginning, new experiences and new desires.
Midnight
We come to that most intricate part during the New Year's Eve, that are fireworks. It is preferable to position yourself near key figures such as Hofburg or Natural History Museum because from these places, the view is the best . Also, it would be desirable to come earlier because the crowds are enormous.
Anyway, the spectacle is incredible. It takes about 20 minutes, so you will definitely love and enjoy. Happiness, joy, people smiles, whistling and crowding are at every turn. The only negative sides are strong winters, so you have to prepare and bring very warm clothes.
The New Year's Eve is not the only reason for visitting Vienna. In addition to spectacular welcome, this city offers many other things. Since New Year's arrangements across agencies are quite short, it is necessary to make a plan what to visit, for every day. In the rest of the article, I will describe the best way of visiting, in order to make your stay easier.
You can find out more about the sights of Vienna I've visited in the articles I have already published. Before the trip, you need to check the museum's working hours to fit everything nicely.
The first day
Since the afternoon arrivals are frequent, you will not have much time to visit a lot of sights. After your stay at the hotel and a short break, head to the center to visit the Hofburg Palace. After the tour, take a walk around the city, visit the shops, you can visit the St. Stephen's Cathedral, eat something and finally return to the accommodation, so you can rest for the next day.
The second day
After breakfast, head to the Shenbrunn Palace, it’s better to visit it in the early morning, to avoid crowds. Otherwise, the tour of the palace's interior lasts about an hour, so it will take about 2 to 3 hours for the entire tour of Shenbrunn ( also the garden). Enjoy its beautiful garden and amazing architecture.
After this visit, you can take a walk to the Prater Park and ride in a huge spot, first built in Europe. If you are not a fan of amusement parks, you can visit Belvedere Palace Museum, take a walk to the center and visit Mozart's House or Sigmund Freud's House. Aftert museum closing time, you can re-walk the city. You can also go to the Parliament, City Hall, Opera and finally return to your accommodation.
Third day
You are left to visit two museums, which are located opposite one to another, the Natural History Museum and the Museum of Art History. It is a great advantage to leave those museums for the end of your trip (or at least one of them), because the buses that are returning you home are parked behind the Natural History Museum.
The very frequent practice of our travel agencies is also the tour of the famous Parndorf shopping center, located near Vienna.
P.S. Our New Year's journey ends here, so my dear readers, I wish you a happy and successful New Year, as well as a good time in the New Year's Eve, no matter where you celebrate it!
